For those who want to start summer early

Spring in Nerja is like getting a head start on summer. Easter week brought beautiful weather, and looking ahead, it seems we'll have over 20 degrees Celsius during the day with glorious sunshine. The best thing about visiting Nerja after Easter, in my opinion, is the pleasant temperatures, sunny days, a relaxed atmosphere, and significantly fewer tourists than during high season. It's wonderfully green, flowery, and summery. Exotic fruits can be enjoyed year-round; you can read about the fruit seasons here.

Excursions from Nerja

Nerja is an excellent base for exploring other parts of Andalusia. Frigiliana is the closest village that you shouldn't miss if you visit Nerja. The view from there is absolutely magical, and you can enjoy a walk among the whitewashed houses and cobblestone streets up to the top of the village. Almuñécar is a coastal town about 20-30 minutes by car from Nerja. A tip is to research what you want to visit before you go so you know where to head. The town has both charming and less charming parts :). For those who want to travel a little further, a trip to Gibraltar, English territory about 2.5 hours by car from Nerja, is recommended.

  • Frigiliana: A charming whitewashed village just 15 minutes away, perfect for a half-day trip.

  • Almuñécar: A coastal town with historical sights such as a Moorish castle and Roman aqueducts.

  • Gibraltar: A day trip to this British enclave offers a unique blend of cultures and spectacular views from the Rock of Gibraltar.

Towards the Coast of Light

If you're a beach lover and want to experience something beyond the beaches of the Costa del Sol, we recommend a trip towards the Costa de la Luz. Villages we think are worth a visit are:

  • Tarifa: Approximately 2.5 hours by car. A kitesurfing town where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. A bit of a hippie vibe. Very relaxed and charming town.

  • Zahara de los Atunes: Approximately 3 hours by car. Here you'll find a picturesque Spanish town with enormously beautiful white beaches.

  • Barbate, Conil de la Frontera: Just over 3 hours by car. Wonderful beaches!

Below you can see a video from these beaches. It's a bit windier on the Costa de la Luz than on the Costa del Sol :)

  • Cadiz: Approximately 3 hours by car. A must-experience if you are in this part of the coast. A typical Spanish city, Europe's oldest, right by the sea. Wonderful white beaches. Typical Spanish food. Charming alleys and lots of culture and history. There's something for everyone! The pictures below don't quite do the city justice. There are enormous sandy beaches along the entire coastal city, history, culture, museums, restaurants, and much, much more.

Conclusion - spring in Nerja and the Spanish coast gets five out of five stars :D!
