Semana Blanca - what is it?
Semana Blanca is a Spanish tradition where a series of activities and events are organized over a week, usually at the end of February or beginning of March – often aimed at young people.
Activities for young people
Initially, this week was created as an alternative holiday where young people could participate in sports, culture, and creative workshops, which not only contributes to more enjoyable leisure time but also to personal development.
The name Semana Blanca
The name "Blanca" may originally refer to the bright and pleasant days during this period, especially in sunny coastal towns like Nerja, where the weather invites outdoor activities.
Semana Blanca Tradition
The tradition has evolved into an important part of the local community, with the municipality offering a varied program ranging from dance and fitness to creative workshops and bike excursions – all to provide a meaningful and stimulating break from the school routine.
