Between February 12 and 15, 2026, the 42nd edition of the Carnival in Nerja was celebrated, one of the most anticipated events of the year in the city. For four days, Nerja was transformed into a large outdoor stage filled with music, colorful costumes, creativity, and joy.
The carnival began on Thursday, February 12, with an official inauguration at the Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja. Antonio Cabra “Chirivita” gave the opening speech, and the audience was then treated to a performance by the Murga group “El Chino.”
Friday, February 13, centered on children with costume contests and the selection of Ninfas and Momo. The event was held in the parking lot at Giner de los Ríos, where younger participants also got to enjoy a festive youth evening.
On Saturday, February 14, the streets were filled with color, imagination, and good cheer as the grand carnival parade started at 5:00 PM from Calle Jaén. Many gathered along the streets to see the creative costumes and feel the wonderful atmosphere.
The carnival concluded on Sunday, February 15, with the traditional "Burial of the Chanquete" – a symbolic and atmospheric ceremony that marked the end of this year's festivities.
