Combining an interest in animals with an internship period is something many can only dream of, but for our daughter Melody, that dream has become a reality. For two weeks in 8th grade, she had the privilege of being at Ándale Riding Center here in Nerja, Spain – the stable where she started riding at just 8 years old.

Out on a tour with Ándale Riding Center
Even though Melody is currently in school in Stockholm, she had the opportunity to return here for her internship, and we are so happy about everything she has learned and experienced. Ándale Riding Center truly is a place where a passion for animals is central. Together with Magnet Man, the owner of the stable and a true animal lover, Melody has learned everything from caring for horses and preparing them for rides to guiding tourists on fantastic excursions through the mountains and down to the beach.
The dream of working with animals
Melody has always loved animals, and her time at Ándale has strengthened her dream of someday working with them. Among the horses, she has her favorites, Esmeralda and Maria, whom she has ridden since she was little, but she has also spent time with Russel, Blanco, Estrella, and Catalina. In addition to the horses, there are four dogs that Magnet rescued from a dog shelter, two of whom have special needs. One of these is the small blind hairless dog Grinchie, who quickly became Melody's favorite, but she also grew close to Bambina and Amelia.

A valuable learning experience
During these two weeks, Melody has not only learned the practical aspects of horse care and riding but also gained insight into what it means to work with animals and people every day.
Magnet, who runs the stable with great care and professionalism, has been a fantastic mentor and boss. His love for animals and his way of teaching have made this internship an invaluable experience for Melody. We are so grateful for all the things Magnet has taught our daughter, including being a groom, a tour guide, and an entrepreneur.
From Melody herself
We thought we'd conclude with some thoughts from Melody herself about her experience. Here are some questions we asked her:
What has been the most fun thing you've done during your internship at Ándale?
The best part has been riding on the beach with my favorite horse, Esmeralda. I've ridden her since I was little. It's also been very fun spending time with Magnet and learning everything he knows about horses and running a horse-related business.
What do you feel you have learned?
How to care for horses and everything involved in managing a stable. I've also learned to take extra care of customers and ensure they are safe during the rides.
Every day I've gotten to take care of the stable, the horses, the dogs, I've gotten physical training and more riding experience, I've gotten to be out in the sun and spend time with Magnet, the customers, the horses, and the dogs.
What is the most important thing you've learned about taking care of horses and other animals?
It takes some muscle to carry hay bales, rake, and take care of everything around the horses. I've learned what horses should eat, that they should have slightly different food; for example, they should have two different types of hay.
What was it like to go on tours up into the mountains and to the beach?
Very cool with beautiful views.
Which of the dogs at the stable do you like the most and why?
Grinchie because he's funny, and Amelia because she's very affectionate and loves to be petted and played with.
What would you say to someone considering an internship at a similar place?
It's the best internship!
A big thank you to Magnet at Ándale Riding Center!
A big thank you to Magnet for giving our daughter a lifelong memory and an even stronger passion for animals and nature.

Information from Magnet Man about Ándale Riding Center's history
Ándale Riding Nerja is owned and operated by Magnet Man.
A singer, artist, producer, and "island cowboy" from the sunny island of Barbados in the Caribbean. -"After 10 years in England, I needed a change, a place with a warmer, more tropical climate similar to my homeland. When I visited friends on the Costa del Sol, I saw Ándale advertised for sale and thought it was a fantastic opportunity to work with animals (which I love) in beautiful natural surroundings, meet new people from all over the world, and create and share wonderful memories." At Ándale, we offer rides for both beginners and advanced riders, including both group and private tours. -"We try to be as accommodating as possible. Here you can relax for a few hours, reconnect with nature, and enjoy and truly unwind to the sounds of nature. We don't just give riding tours; we create memories!" Yours Truly, Magnet
