Renting a car directly at Málaga airport is an option for those who want to have a car during their entire stay in Nerja. It is best to rent in advance, google eg: "rent a car Malaga airport" and options will come up. Choose the option that suits your wallet best. Alternatively, you can use comparison sites such as autoeurope.se or rentalcars.com.

Taxi
Travel from Malaga airport to Nerja by taxi, e.g. for those who want to arrive quickly and smoothly
For those who prefer a more personal service, a taxi or a private transfer can be a good option. A taxi, for example Nerja Taxi, from the airport to Nerja costs around 75 euros. Pre-booking via their website is recommended to avoid higher prices.

Bus - Cost effective
Travel from Malaga airport to Nerja by bus, e.g. for those who want a budget option
Alsa offers direct buses from the airport to Nerja, but they don't run very often. Please check in advance which days and times apply. It is very affordable (costs around 6 euros one way).
The journey takes about 1 hour 45 minutes, depending on how many stops the bus makes on the way.
Another option is to take a local bus to Malaga bus station and then change to a bus going to Nerja. Buses run constantly between the airport and Malaga bus station, and they run several times a day between Malaga and Nerja. For current timetables and ticket booking, visit Alsa.

Train to Malaga city followed by bus to Nerja
Travel from Malaga airport to Nerja by train and bus, e.g. for those of you who feel quite safe traveling on public transport in Malaga
If you prefer to travel by train, you can take the commuter train from the airport to Málaga city. The train leaves right outside the airport entrance (go out and across the road), pay easily with the credit card in the barrier. The train takes you to Malaga's Maria Zambrano train station where it is an easy 4 minute walk and change to a bus to Nerja from the Malaga bus station. The trains depart regularly and so do the buses.

Carpooling opportunities via Facebook group
Travel from Malaga airport to Nerja together with others - fast, smooth and cheap
For those interested in carpooling, there is the Facebook group "Samåkning / CarPooling Nerja / Torrox <> AGP Malaga" where you can find other travelers and share the costs. Cheaper than paying for the entire taxi journey yourself and a social way to travel.

Regardless of the method of transport, it is wise to plan your trip in advance, especially during high season when demand can be high. Don't forget to also check for updates and any changes to timetables.
